Carbon wheel set or light weight alloy for the road? Your thoughts?
If we’re talking clinchers and we’re going for the 1200g and under wheelset: crabon.
The 1200g aluminium wheelsets I’ve looked at had enough material removed from the rim that prevented them from being a robust everyday set. Having said that, I’d still buy a set and choose when and where I use them.
At the 1400g level we’re looking at a bunch of crabon and aluminium wheels that can be used everyday that it all boils down to brake track preference. Modern crabon brake tracks have improved greatly. Crabon isn’t bad per se, just different. Also if you’re into the aero stuff, crabon will be lighter than a comparable aluminium wheelset.
If you’re confident in your descending skills and understand the difference in braking, for the 1400g level: crabon.
